The Vikings didn’t do it. Nor did a certain Genovese merchantman. Or the Polynesians. Anyway, Columbus never set foot on the continent and to his death claimed that the Caribbean was India. Others have looked for it, though, which can be somewhat confusing because most of them were already there.
Anyway, that’s who we’ll be listening to this weekend. US citizens looking for, er, America, and finding it, variously, appealing, formerly appealing, unsatisfactory, unequal, inspiring hope, dread, etc., the whole lot.
