266 The Eyes Have It
Tracks having the eyes, the windows of the soul, as part of their title and subject. This one assembled by Hugh, and very well appreciated too.
I was once again unable to attend as the virus had left me with bacterial pneumonia and I was really quite ill. Fortunately the antibiotics were doing their job. Unfortunately I was the battleground. Voice had completely gone.
I’m told that up to 20 listeners were connected, which is a very rewarding number indeed in a chilly January.
139R Live and Direct
Tracks taken from live albums or concert recordings and ones that we think are better than their studio equivalents. A lot of excellent music in this set and I was told that it went down well in the cavern. We may think of putting another set together.
I was unable to attend due to voice problems stemming from a winter respiratory virus.
265 Lost in 2024
The annual review of musicians and entertainers who died in the previous 12 months was very full this year, with some spilling over into the pre and postshow sets. The core audience stayed with us, to a max of 16 for the show, and were very appreciative in the cavern.
136R Lost in 2019 Remastered
A Remastered show starts off this year, as we are all still recovering from Solstice celebrations of all kinds. Updated to reflect the passage of time and to better fit the timeframe, Peter Tork got shifted to the postshow. 24 listener connections at one point, very satisfying for the first show of the year, and the audience were full of fun, as usual.
264 A Christmas Carol
A festive emterainment themed around Charles Dickens’ Victorian morality tale “A Christmas Carol”
Oddly enough, this show grew out of the fact that I remembered the first line of Marillion’s Childhood’s End being “and it was morning”, fitting that into Scrooge’s awakening, and the whole thing grew out of that. It came together with a bit of effort and went down very well, a good show for our last in 2024.
We all here at Radio Free D’ni wish you a very happy solstice celebration of your choice (why not choose more than one, Jul, Christmas, Old Christmas, Saturmalia…) and a good New Year. We will return on January 5th 2025.
138R Tom Waits
A fine selection of tracks by Tom Waits, the grevel-voiced singer, songwriter, actor and etc. some presented by other artists. Well atteneded too, up to 18 listener connections with 16 for most of the show.
263 By The Book 4: Bands with names taken from literature
Our fourth set of literary songs took a different tack and here it is the bands whose names are derived from literary references. Quite a wide variety of genres with a heavy leaning towards Sixties Prog. Maybe they were the only ones reading literature and who wanted obscure punning references….
Peak 26 listener connections, a very good number for Thanksgiving weekend. Thanks to our loyal fans 🙂
134R The Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin
A fine selection of songs from this pair, some sung by Elton, others by a range of artists in tribute performances. Encouragingly well attended and enthusiastically received.
262 Tea or Coffee
As promised, a hot-beverage themed show, assembled by our friend Nigel and heavy on the jazz. Well appreciated by our audience, with at most 23 connections to the channel – we like it when that happens.
137R Dave Pegg 2
A second show to complete our run through the career of Dave Pegg, heavy on Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull, but also featuring quite a few of his many notable collaborations, along with some solo stuff.
The postshow began with a 2022 track from the new Jethro Tull album, The Zealot Gene, rather apposite for today. Yes, Ian Anderson has reformed a Jethro Tull, despite having very publically disbanded it a while ago.
