196 Prime Time

A Prime Time collection of tracks about the concept of time, the passage of time, specific times and so on.  Many genres and styles of music represented, but they went together well  –  at least, our audience thought so.

063R Covered Up 2

A fine selection of songs and covers, and appreciated by a good audience, although it seems that the persistence of the DST difference between the US and Europe caught a few people out.  I was as thorough as I could be in the publicity…

Covered Up… again!

This week’s offering is a slight remaster of the 63rd show from six years ago, presenting original tracks and some of their cover versions—focusing on either unusual originals, or unusual or storied covers. And in some cases, both.

195 The original Mahavishnu Orchestra

A great and very well attended show, and in keeping with our desire to bring you something new.  In some ways a precursor to jazz fusion, but the influence of this group was much wider than that.

Mahavishnu Orchestra

This week’s show will be concerned with the original Mahavishnu Orchestra (not the many later attempts are re-establishing the formula by founder John McLaughlin). Jazz turned up to 11, not something for the traditional Jazz lover, the band made more inroads with Rock audiences than elsewhere.

194 International Women’s Day 2022

We try to support special events in the Cavern as well as our regular shows, and IWD is one we’ve supported for the last six years.  This year, unfortunately, neither Ed nor Mal was available to mix the show, and so I had to present it solo, as I don’t have the equipment.  Old age does that to you…

I inherited 23 listeners from Podhopper’s show and still had 20 by the end of it – very pleasing, for a weekday show and at a late hour for European listeners.

No Fillers!

This week, we are presenting tracks from albums that contain absolutely no filler material—you know, the fluff bits to make an album out of a collection of three singles without costing the record company too much in studio time or songwriters’ royalties.

See you in the Cavern,
Malalclypse

193 Traffic

An excellent show from Hugh about the band with three star names that managed to stay together, on and off, and produce some really great music along the way.  The preshow contained tracks from precursor bands The Spencer Davis Group (which contained Steve Winwood) and Deep Feeling (Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason), and some of the early psychedelic tracks from Traffic.
