Un-Covered II

This week, we will uncover another bunch of un-covered songs, i.e., tracks that share the same title, but nothing else. This format typically makes for a wide variety of styles, so we’re in for an interesting ride there.

266 The Eyes Have It

Tracks having the eyes, the windows of the soul, as part of their title and subject.   This one assembled by Hugh, and very well appreciated too.
I was once again unable to attend as the virus had left me with bacterial pneumonia and I was really quite ill. Fortunately the antibiotics were doing their job. Unfortunately I was the battleground. Voice had completely gone.
I’m told that up to 20 listeners were connected, which is a very rewarding number indeed in a chilly January.

The Eyes Have It!

This week’s outing will see eye to eye with songs concerned with the, er, eye.

139R Live and Direct

Tracks taken from live albums or concert recordings and ones that we think are better than their studio equivalents.  A lot of excellent music in this set and I was told that it went down well in the cavern.  We may think of putting another set together.
I was unable to attend due to voice problems stemming from a winter respiratory virus.

Live and Direct

This week, we will delve into live performances. Particularly, ones that are regarded as being better than the studio recordings of the same tracks. So, pump up your air guitar, put on some solid footwear, fill up your lighter, and get ready for occasional headbanging. Also, if you’re the moshpit type, wear beerproof clothes.

265 Lost in 2024

The annual review of musicians and entertainers who died in the previous 12 months was very full this year, with some spilling over into the pre and postshow sets.  The core audience stayed with us, to a max of 16 for the show, and were very appreciative in the cavern.

Lost in 2024

Time for our yearly look back at those great artists that we lost in the last year. As usual, not all artists can be featured, and not all names on the roster will be instantly recognisable to everybody. All, however, have left their mark in the world of music, shaping what we hear today.

136R Lost in 2019 Remastered

A Remastered show starts off this year, as we are all still recovering from Solstice celebrations of all kinds.  Updated to reflect the passage of time and to better fit the timeframe, Peter Tork got shifted to the postshow.  24 listener connections at one point, very satisfying for the first show of the year, and the audience were full of fun, as usual.

Lost In 2019

Wait, you’ll say. Aren’t you a few years late for that show?

Well—actually, no. We’ve dusted it off, polished it somewhat and are going to air it out a little in the run-up to the show a week later, which will feature those great artists we lost in 2024. But to get the new year started, we’ll take a look back five years on the 5th of January.

264 A Christmas Carol

A festive emterainment themed around Charles Dickens’ Victorian morality tale “A Christmas Carol”

Oddly enough, this show grew out of the fact that I remembered the first line of Marillion’s Childhood’s End being “and it was morning”, fitting that into Scrooge’s awakening, and the whole thing grew out of that.  It came together with a bit of effort and went down very well, a good show for our last in 2024.

We all here at Radio Free D’ni wish you a very happy solstice celebration of your choice (why not choose more than one, Jul, Christmas, Old Christmas, Saturmalia…) and a good New Year.  We will return on January 5th 2025.
