  • Rock Humour II: Turned Up To 11!

On the 6th, at the usual time, we will present a second set of humour in Rock. EdisonRex is not currently available to do the Voodoo bits for us, so Alan will be handling the Microphone all by himself, but Malaclypse and Root Beer will be in the plaza for moral support and to possibly answer questions.

    See you in the Cavern,
    Malaclypse

  • 72 Gentle Giant

We were without Edison for this show, as he was having some well-earned time off.  The show was presented by me, AlanDJ, and I nearly always remembered to shut my mic off between announcements…

We got up to 20 listeners at one point, which was better than expected given that it is the first weekend of the British school holidays and the US folks have been on holiday for a while.  Thanks for listening, as always, and mention us to your friends…

Given that I was doing the broadcast all on my tod, I started the preshow early and also went on a bit longer with the postshow, moving on to game soundtrack music and then a ‘Fire’ theme.

  • 70: Girls…

Radio Free D’ni’s 70th show played to a good audience on the plaza and on the air. We had a busy night with 24 tracks in the show, most of them being 3-minute singles, and all on the theme of girls names. We had some response to our call for requests, and more came in during the show, so we’ll keep those for next time. You can still contact us via the website, or in the game, and let us know of a track you would like – if we have it, we will try to play it.

The next show of this type will concentrate on boys names, of which there are somewhat fewer examples but still plenty around.

The preshow had some more tracks from the G section of my stash – Genesis and Gerry Mulligan. Postshow was some of the tracks that almost made it into the show.

22 listeners max, 17 average. I blame the summer holidays.

  • The History of Creedence Clearwater Revival

As announced earlier, on Sunday we will present the history of CCR, from their beginning to the band’s untimely end. In the pre- and post-show bits there will be some rare live takes by the band, and solo material by John Fogerty. One of the shortest careers of any major Rock band, during their five years of existence, CCR have helped create the genre of modern Hard Rock, as well as their very own style, which was later titled Swamp Rock and given its epitaph by Southern Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd with their song “Swamp Music,” commemorating the disbanding of CCR a year earlier. Did you ever wonder how such a successful band could go down the drain so quickly? Listen in and you’ll find out 🙂

  • 68 A Bad Year for Good Music IV. George Martin

Show 68 was a celebration and a fast trip through the musical career of George Martin, the ‘fifth Beatle’

A man who became the head of the Parlophone label when it was EMI’s second string and turned it around with a wide range of artists, chief of which were The Beatles. A musician too, who played keyboards on all the early Beatles tracks, and wrote, arranged and conducted orchestral accompaniment, as well as film scores and other works.

Preshow was from the stash, where we have reached F – in this case Focus and Free.

Postshow contained tracks cut from the main show for time – there’s a lot of George Martin out there for you still to discover.

It has been suggested that a History of The Beatles might be well accepted – what do you think?

  • A Bad Year for Good Music pt. IV

This Sunday it is all about George Martin, legendary producer and studio boss, who died in 2016. One of the most successful producers ever, with #1 hits through three consecutive decades (one of only three producers to have managed that), he had a long career, famously producing The Beatles in the 1960s, among many others.

  • 67 Unexpected Instrumentals

The show was mainly about instrumentals that had been made by vocal bands, with a few others that were unexpected in other ways.

The preshow was all tracks that missed out on being in the main show, because they were’nt unexpected enough or because we’d played them recently.  The version of Soul Sscrifice from Woodstock contains the best drum solo that Mike Shrieve ever recorded, which must have been a bit of an albatross for his subsequent career – he was just 19 at the time.

  • Unexpected Instrumentals

On May 14th, we will present Unexpected Instrumentals, being a selection of instrumental pieces by bands which are not renowned for doing them, or which are so different from what the bands are known for that it really is quite unexpected. Might be a few surprises in there 🙂
